Anushka started giving auditions for film in addition to her modeling. Anushka was the first to be seen in a role of acting with Shah Rukh Khan opposite Anushka. As a screen test for her, she was not willing to take the test in a hurry and instead spent one day to get ready. She was later signed to three films with Yash Raj Films. The film in which she appeared performed the role of a young girl who got married to a middle-aged man (the character Shah Rukh Khan is playing). The film was hit on the box office and was the second-highest-grossing movie of 2008. Anushka appeared in the 2010 film "Badmash Company" together with Shahid Kapoor Meiyang Chang, Vir Das. The film received mixed praises. Anushka appeared alongside Ranveer in the film 'Band Baaja Baaraat' in which she played the role of a Punjabi middle-class girl who started her own business. It received a favourable review and was widely regarded as an overnight success. In Band Baaja Baaraat, Anushka's three-film contract under Yash Raj Films banner was final.
